So true. Rejected the first offer I got because it was too "low". 9 months of crippling carrying costs later, am asking the same price he originally offered.

This is a great article - we had this experience ourselves. We put in the first offer to a seller - agent said that the sellers were insulted at our first offer. We wouldn't go up to what the vendors wanted & moved on looking at other properties. Two months later the agent called us to say that the vendors had dropped the price. However in our view the value of the property had dropped as we had seen others by now. We did put in a second offer but it was significantly lower than our first. Eventually the sellers sold the place but it was at approx 15k below our first offer!
